Jerico Felix & Bianchi Evardoni

This study is a qualitative research entitled #Selfie: The Concept of Vanity According to Filipino Teenagers which aims to elaborate the reason/s for the Filipino teenager’s Vanity, which mainly manifests in photographs and/or Selfies.

Respondents for this study are teenagers whose age is from 14-18, and adults from age 22-41 who all reside in Quezon City. The respondents were then interviewed in three ways: first personal interview was conducted by the researchers so that they may be able to review their conversation; second, through online chat and through text. Then their answers were used and analyzed to conclude about the reason/s for the Filipino teenager’s vanity.

Results have showed that teenagers’ vanity is mostly affected by how family members take effect on their actions such as their influence to developing ones’ vanity. It also showed that adults/ elders do not percept negatively towards the manifestation of vanity for teenagers because they see it as their way of building “self-confidence” at an early age.

After the study, the researchers were able to find out that taking Selfie is a way for teenagers to express how they feel, for they believe that it is easier to show than to put it down in words. Data also shows that when a teenager has an easier connection to any gadget and/or Social Networking Site/s, he or she tends to be vain for he has an easy access to things, which may be used to capture photos.

These female and male respondents are ages ten (10) and above years old who are Filipino students. The interviews were conducted through recorded one-on-one encounters while the surveys were both individually handed out personally and were also answered through ‘Facebook’. The researchers have found out that the respondents have various reasons why they have chosen their education system but majority of the classroom-based students answered that it is because of the parent’s decision and personal decision being able to provide better curriculum and experiences while on other hand, home schooled students resort to their manner of learning because of complicated factors in their life which leads to home schooling becoming a solution.

The researchers have concluded that students aim to prepare themselves to be who they wish to become by partaking the educational system that they think suits them best. Results show that both respondents from home school and classroom-based education appear to have advantageous characteristics when it comes to learning. The researchers recommend to be more particular on the age range of respondents and to be more thorough with gathering the data.

Jerrico Dimaculangan, Paolo Pargas, & Aliana Cadiang

This is a qualitative research entitled “The implications of Credit Card Usage to Filipino mind set” that aims to assess the interaction between Credit Cards and Filipino users. The researchers have considered Quezon City as well as Caloocan City for ten respondents of both genders and social classification (middle and upper class), with ages ranging from fourteen to forty-five, to participate in a one-on-one interview for the purpose of gathering the needed information to answer the queries in this research, such as, “What are the implications of Credit Card usage on Filipino mind set?” and “How does owning a credit card affect an individual’s household living cost?”

Based on the accumulated findings, credit card situations and encounters –be it negative or not- contrasts among the respondents; which is due to the apparent differences in their relationship with the credit card itself, as well as, their current financial standings. Hence, in general, it can be said that how a credit card affects a user varies directly on how they handle it; with accordance to several purchasing factors, such as, the purpose and the frequency of usage. In addition to that, the researchers would like to recommend the forthcoming investigators to hope for more interviewees outside the urban areas to acquire information from, as well as, a longer time duration to gather the said data; as, this subject involves a social issue that concerns majority of a nation, and can therefore not be thoroughly analysed with only few respondents.

Danilo Zulueta, Danica Granado, & Naomi Samson

Nanay, Tatay… Bakit Kayo Naghiwalay: Implikasyon ng Pagkakaroon ng Hindi Buong Pamilya

Feather Casilan & George Philip Villongco
