Jerico Felix & Bianchi Evardoni

This study is a qualitative research entitled #Selfie: The Concept of Vanity According to Filipino Teenagers which aims to elaborate the reason/s for the Filipino teenager’s Vanity, which mainly manifests in photographs and/or Selfies.

Respondents for this study are teenagers whose age is from 14-18, and adults from age 22-41 who all reside in Quezon City. The respondents were then interviewed in three ways: first personal interview was conducted by the researchers so that they may be able to review their conversation; second, through online chat and through text. Then their answers were used and analyzed to conclude about the reason/s for the Filipino teenager’s vanity.

Results have showed that teenagers’ vanity is mostly affected by how family members take effect on their actions such as their influence to developing ones’ vanity. It also showed that adults/ elders do not percept negatively towards the manifestation of vanity for teenagers because they see it as their way of building “self-confidence” at an early age.

After the study, the researchers were able to find out that taking Selfie is a way for teenagers to express how they feel, for they believe that it is easier to show than to put it down in words. Data also shows that when a teenager has an easier connection to any gadget and/or Social Networking Site/s, he or she tends to be vain for he has an easy access to things, which may be used to capture photos.
